Staff Feature: Eliwina Mjachakwe (Tanzania)

Prior to COVID-19 detection and social distancing in Tanzania, World Poultry Foundation
consultant Eliwina Mjachakwe was out visiting smallholder farmers and encouraging them to
practice proper sanitation, especially handwashing.

Eliwina utilizes teaching cards to stress the importance of sanitation to prevent disease – in both chickens and humans.

Eliwina travels throughout Tanzania visiting farmers and APMI brooder units and conducts
training on nutrition, sanitation and women’s empowerment. Below is a group of men and
Eliwina discussing women’s role in poultry management.
